Export Sales Highlights
This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period August 14-20, 2009
Wheat:
Net sales of 652,700 metric tons–a marketing-year high–were up 82 percent from the previous week and 33 percent from prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Nigeria (222,500 MT), Japan (89,500 MT), Egypt (60,000 MT), South Korea (54,500 MT), unknown destinations (46,400 MT), Mexico (35,100 MT), and Taiwan (31,700 MT). Decreases were reported for the Netherlands (21,500 MT) and Panama (400 MT). Exports of 450,200 MT–a marketing-year high–were up 20 percent from the previous week and 24 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Nigeria (102,000 MT), the Philippines (70,400 MT), Mexico (53,100 MT), Thailand (47,700 MT), Japan (46,400 MT), South Korea (44,500 MT), and Taiwan (34,500 MT).
Corn:
Net sales of 265,600 MT were down 54 percent from the previous week and 47 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Japan (310,100 MT, including 107,500 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 68,500 MT), Taiwan (59,400 MT, including 57,900 MT switched from Egypt), South Korea (46,500 MT), Mexico (30,000 MT), Morocco (14,800 MT, switched from unknown destinations), and Venezuela (10,500 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (173,100 MT) and Egypt (45,400 MT). Net sales of 707,600 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were primarily for unknown destinations (275,100 MT), Mexico (172,300 MT), Egypt (120,000 MT), and Syria (85,000 MT). Decreases were reported for Saudi Arabia (60,000 MT) and Israel (30,000 MT). Exports of 1,275,000 MT were up 14 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Japan (555,200 MT, including late reporting 234,600 MT), South Korea (171,300 MT), Mexico (150,100 MT), Egypt (92,800 MT), Taiwan (89,100 MT), Colombia (51,400 MT), and Venezuela (27,000 MT).
Barley:
Net sales of 500 MT were for Taiwan. Exports of 200 MT were for Mexico.
Sorghum:
Net sales of 38,600 MT were for Japan (49,800 MT, including 6,100 MT switched from unknown destinations). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (6,100 MT) and Mexico (5,100 MT). Net sales of 172,100 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for Mexico (128,400 MT) and unknown destinations (43,700 MT). Exports of 122,800 MT–a marketing-year high–were for Mexico (73,000 MT) and Japan (49,800 MT).
Rice:
Net sales 84,300 MT were down 41 percent from the previous week. Increases were reported for Mexico (48,700 MT), Nigeria (14,000 MT), the United Kingdom (4,300 MT), the French Pacific Island (2,200 MT), and Canada (2,100 MT). Exports of 39,500 MT were down 17 percent from the previous week and 23 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Haiti (15,500 MT), Mexico (4,100 MT), El Salvador (3,800 MT), Honduras (3,800 MT), Jordan (2,700 MT), and Canada (2,100 MT).
Soybeans:
Net sales of 87,900 MT were down 68 percent from the previous week and 72 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for Japan (136,500 MT, including 100,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 2,400 MT), Cuba (16,300 MT), Turkey (8,500 MT), Taiwan (8,000 MT), and Peru (5,000 MT). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (99,000 MT) and the Philippines (3,000 MT). Net sales of 1,966,300 MT for 2009/10 delivery were mainly for China (1,530,500 MT), unknown destinations (303,000 MT), Mexico (81,500 MT), and Turkey (18,000 MT). Exports of 311,500 MT were double from the previous week and up 26 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Japan (141,100 MT, including late reporting 9,200 MT), China (64,200 MT), Indonesia (62,700 MT), and Egypt (19,800 MT).
Soybean Cake and Meal:
Net sales of 68,400 MT were down 38 percent from the previous week, but up 4 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Ireland (15,000 MT), the Philippines (13,800 MT), Mexico (12,400 MT), and Canada (10,300 MT). Decreases were reported for Peru (2,900 MT). Net sales of 99,600 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were mainly for unknown destinations (60,000 MT), Guatemala (23,100 MT), and Vietnam (9,000 MT). Exports of 46,000 MT were down 58 percent from the previous week and 50 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Mexico (20,100 MT) and Canada (20,000 MT).
Soybean Oil:
Net sales reductions of 400 MT were resulted as increases for Peru (10,400 MT, including 10,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Canada (400 MT), and Trinidad (100 MT), were more than offset by decreases for unknown destinations (10,000 MT). Net sales of 3,500 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for Mexico. Exports of 15,700 MT were down 45 percent from the previous week and 31 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were South Korea (10,000 MT), Jamaica (2,000 MT), Guatemala (1,800 MT), and Mexico (1,100 MT).
Cotton:
Net Upland sales of 234,000 running bales were up noticeably from the previous week. Increases were reported for Turkey (43,800 RB), China (41,100 RB, including 1,200 RB switched from South Korea), Vietnam (29,800 RB), Mexico (18,500 RB), and Colombia (18,000 RB). Net sales of 5,700 RB were for El Salvador (4,800 RB) and South Korea (900 RB). Exports of 200,700 RB were up 57 percent from the previous week, but down 3 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (50,100 RB), Turkey (29,400 RB), Mexico (27,700 RB), Thailand (20,900 RB), Vietnam (20,600 RB), and Indonesia (10,800 RB). Net American Pima sales of 4,000 RB were down 31 percent from the previous week. Increases were primarily for China (1,200 RB), India (1,200 RB), and Taiwan (900 RB). Exports of 14,300 RB were down 31 percent from the previous week and 6 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were mainly to China (5,400 RB), Peru (3,100 RB), Egypt (2,200 RB), and India (2,100 RB).

Pro Farmer pegs US corn crop at 12.807 bln bu, soybeans at 3.15 bln

Pro Farmer estimated the average corn yield at 160.1 bushels per acre, and the average soybean yield at 41.0 bushels per acre.
The U.S. Agriculture Department last week forecast the 2009 U.S. corn crop at 12.761 billion bushels, which would be the second-largest on record, and soybean production at a record-high 3.199 billion bushels.

CHICAGO (Dow Jones)–The following is a range of analysts’ estimates of export sales for the week ended Aug. 13. The estimates and prior week’s
actual figures encompass combined sales for all marketing years, unless indicated.
Units are in thousand metric tons. The report is scheduled for release by the U.S. Department of Agriculture at 8:30 a.m. EDT (1230 GMT) Thursday. Actuals are subject to revision by the USDA.
